Should health care and/or health insurance be government-run?
I have been having a fascinating discussion about this with a friend on Facebook during the last week. There is so much information available for and against this all-important issue. Please add you thoughts. However, please keep to the issue. In other words, do not attack someone personally for their position or thoughts. Stick to the issue, voice your opinion and state the facts as you see them. Let's have a great discussion. Thanks.

Where would you like to start?
ReplyDeleteDepending on who you have been listening to, government run health care could be the answer to all our issues, or a nightmare. As many people have said, do you want the same 'company' that runs the post office to manage your health care needs?
Something needs to be done. In listening to industry experts that monitor this on the state and national level, a single payor, government run health plan is highly unlikely. In fact, I've been told it won't happen, but I'll stick with highly unlikely. More probably there will be a combination of public and private health care cover options.
If you look at options in other countries, consider that their 'free' health care has cost them significantly in taxes. Depending on the country you look at they are often times now being asked to pay co-pays for certain services and hospitalization. I posted an article by the AP on my web site two days ago explaining what's going on in some countries, so feel free to read and comment http://www.askColleenKing.com.
Basically, while something needs to happen, we don't want it to happen too quickly, it needs to be carefully thought out. Not a 1,000 page document our legislators have a couple hours to read, can't explain and then vote on. Remember, be careful what you ask for.....
